Xtreme Download Manager (XDM) 7.2.11 is a free and open-source download manager for Windows by Subhra Das Gupta. You download Xtreme Download Manager to speed up large downloads, resume broken ones and save videos from websites through a browser extension.
Browsers download a file in a single stream, and if the connection drops, you often have to start again. XDM splits each file into several parts and downloads them in parallel, which can make downloads noticeably faster on connections that limit speed per stream, and it can resume interrupted transfers where they stopped. A browser integration catches downloads automatically and adds a button to pages with video, so you can save streams from many video sites in the format and quality you choose, including converting them to audio. There is a scheduler for night downloads, a speed limiter so downloads do not take the whole line, queue management, and support for proxies and authentication. XDM is released under the GNU General Public License, version 2.0, and its source code is on GitHub.
The last stable release is 7.2.11 from 21 May 2020. The official site also lists a newer 8.0 line, marked BETA, with builds such as 8.0.29 available as an MSI installer and through the Microsoft Store. The beta has a reworked interface; the stable 7.2 line is older but proven. Choose according to whether you prefer new features or maximum stability.
The package is about 53.53 MB according to catalogue data.
A Windows PC and a supported browser for the integration. Linux installers exist as well; older builds also came as a portable JAR that needs Java 11.
XDM is open source, so its code can be reviewed. Download it only from the official site or repository; fake "XDM" installers with adware exist. Saving videos is allowed only when you have the right to do so; respect copyright and the terms of the sites you use.
Nothing. XDM is free and has no ads.
Limit the number of parallel connections if a server starts refusing downloads, and use the scheduler for big files at night. Keep the browser extension updated together with the program.
Other download managers on our site include Free Download Manager, JDownloader and Internet Download Accelerator. For videos specifically, see yt-dlp and 4K Video Downloader.
